Glendale, CA. the Armenian Professional Society (APS) Awards Banquet on November 12, 2017 to honor APS 2017 Professional of the Year, Noubar Afeyan. This year’s event will be held from 5-9 PM on Sunday, November 12th at the Vertigo Event Venue in Glendale, CA.
2017 Professional of the Year: Noubar Afeyan
Dr. Afeyan has been selected based on his incredibly successful business career and remarkable contributions to the Armenian community:
- Founder and CEO of Flagship Pioneering, a venture capital firm that has backed over 75 ventures and created more than $19 billion of aggregate value since the firm’s founding in 2000.
- Co-Founder of the 100 Lives Initiative and started the Aurora Prize award in 2016. Actor George Clooney and Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel have served as co-chairs of the prize committee.
- Member of the MIT Board of Trustees and Senior Lecturer at MIT’s Sloan School of Management teaching courses on technology and entrepreneurship.
2017 Achievement Award: Sylvia Minassian
Mrs. Minassian, a longtime APS member, will be receiving the 2017 Achievement Award in recognition of the positive impact she has made on the community:
- Established the Arpa Foundation for Film, Music and Art (AFFMA) in 1995, a non-profit foundation dedicated to discovering and showcasing diverse artistic talent from around the world.
- Launched the annual Arpa International Film Festival in 1997, aimed at creating a dynamic forum for international and local filmmakers who explore themes such as diaspora, war, genocide, and multi-culturalism.
